Aliénor is a romantic, bohemian-inspired blouse with bows.
The front and back yokes shape the neckline, while the gathered bodice flares out towards the high hip, creating volume.
I designed it to be easy to sew and versatile, so you can wear it all year round: with long or short sleeves, bows (with an optional underlap), or a combination of bows and buttons.
With this pattern, you can sew a classic version to wear to work or a more romantic one for leisurely summer days. Make it your own and adapt it to suit your style and your mood!
Aliénor: a royal name of medieval origin, evoking the nobility, elegance and strength of character of Aliénor of Aquitaine.
The Aliénor bow blouse sewing pattern is designed to help you take your sewing skills to the intermediate level.
If you’ve already sewn a few simple garments, this blouse sewing pattern is perfect for taking your skills to the next level. You’ll learn how to create even gathers, achieve neat bias binding finishes, use the burrito method to assemble the back yoke, and sew elasticated sleeve hems. These are valuable techniques and tips that you’ll be able to use in many future sewing projects!
To guide you through every step of making this blouse, you’ll find a richly illustrated step-by-step guide, along with a complete video tutorial. We’ll sew together, every step of the way, to make your experience as clear, smooth, and enjoyable as possible.
No stress, no pressure: just the joy of creating your very own garment!

A wide range of fabrics are suitable for the Aliénor blouse, so you can choose according to your style and preferences! Broderie anglaise will highlight its romantic design, while floral cotton will give it a more bohemian feel. Silk or lightweight, slightly sheer viscose will add a touch of elegance. How to style the Aliénor blouse?
The Aliénor blouse is an easy-to-wear piece that fits effortlessly into your everyday wardrobe. Paired with jeans it makes a casual look that’s perfect for everyday wear. Paired with high-waisted trousers (Edmond for example), it creates an elegant outfit, perfect for work. Sewn in the same fabric as a mini pair of elasticated-waist shorts, it becomes a chic loungewear top or even a stylish pyjama top.
A sewing machine is all you need, an overlock machine is optional. The front and back yokes are lined. For neat, professional-looking seams on the inside of the garment, I recommend using French seams and bias-bound seam finishes.
The illustrated sewing guide includes a whole section dedicated to making adjustments. I’ll show you how to alter the length of the blouse or of the sleeves. Adjustment lines are clearly marked on the relevant pattern pieces to make these modifications as easy as possible.
I’ve always loved history, and I have a particular soft spot for royal names (spoiler alert!).
When I was just beginning to develop this design, I rewatched the Secrets d’Histoire episode about Aliénor of Aquitaine. I realised that her name had been on my list of “favourite names for sewing patterns” for years.
Aliénor of Aquitaine is one of the most fascinating women of the Middle Ages. Duchess of Aquitaine, Queen of France and later Queen of England, she left her mark on history through her intelligence and strength of character.
What more could I ask for!
For my versions of the blouse, I chose Swiss dot cotton and white cotton broderie anglaise. The first fabric comes from my personal fabric stash, while I found the second at a fabric shop in Paris, Tissus Reine. Unfortunately, this fabric isn’t available online.
